About Us
J & D Septic Service was started by John and Dee Craig in 1982. At the time, they had a hog and beef farm with a liquid manure system. The former owner of the business, while cleaning out the hog system, said he was selling the business. John and Dee bought the truck for their own use but soon realized you could make more money pumping septic tanks than raising hogs. They incorporated in 1986. John continued to work at Keystone Power Plant and pumped septic tanks (a one-man operation) with Dee doing the bookwork. Then John retired from the power plant, to work on tanks full-time—except when he went on hunting trips or vacation. Within the last couple of years, their son, Scott, joined the corporation as a partner and has been doing most of the work. John stays active in the business as a consultant and occasional driver. Dee continues to do the bookwork. Scott worked in the mines before pumping tanks and is a high school boys’ volleyball coach.
